In an unprecedented incident, four senior-most judges of Supreme Court of India on Friday lashed out at Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra. Justices Jasti Chelameswar, Ranjan Gogoi, Madan Lokur and Kurian Joseph – said there was an immediate need to preserve the judiciary system in the country.
Democracy would not survive in India unless the court’s regulations were followed, they added.
Justice Chelameshwar said the administration of the nation’s top court was not in order and they were left with no choice but to address the nation after they failed to convince the Chief Justice. They also released a letter they had written to the Chief Justice.
This is the first time Supreme Court judges have ever addressed the media.
The unprecedented event has prompted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hold an emergency meeting with Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
